Curry Roberts

President

Curry Roberts serves as President of the Fredericksburg Regional Alliance at The University of Mary Washington, only its third since the organization began. Curry is a business leader with 35 years of non-profit, public and private sector executive experience and a proven track record in successfully managing complex issues. He joined FRA in 2014 after serving as a Principal with Hirschler-Fleischer Consulting, LLC of Richmond. Serving as Virginia’s Secretary of Economic Development (now Commerce and Trade) under Governor Gerald L. Baliles, Curry was responsible for oversight of 15 state agencies covering agriculture, ports, industrial development, tourism, OSHA and the arts. With his support, during Governor Baliles’ administration, there were 400,000 new jobs created and 100 domestic and overseas companies located or invested in Virginia. Following his service in state government, Metromedia Telecommunication’s founder John Kluge tapped Curry to manage and grow JWK Properties, Inc., a combination of diverse private businesses valued at more than $100 million including an 8,000-acre working farm, a coin laundry business, and a peanut shelling operation. Kluge then asked Curry to apply his diverse experience and management skills to lead the turnaround of PM Holdings, LLC, a $275 million niche market food company. Curry’s experience in navigating the complexities of state and local zoning and regulatory issues, his ability to manage diverse interests toward a common goal, and his extensive contacts among decision makers led his fellow board members at State Fair of Virginia, Inc. to ask him to lead the organization as President and CEO through a pivotal transition to its new home in Caroline County. A native of Bedford County, Va., Curry is a 1980 graduate of Virginia Tech. Curry currently serves as Chairman of the Loan Committee of the Rappahannock Economic Development Corporation. He previously served as Chair of the Board of Directors of Southern States Cooperative, Inc. and as president of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association. Curry is a 2014 co-recipient of Tech’s Alumni Distinguished Service Award and in 2022 received VEDA’s prestigious Cardinal Award, which recognizes leadership in economic development.
